When you arrive for your appointment, the first thing you’ll note is that it’s all about you.
We schedule at least an hour for your appointment, no matter what age the child. Now, that doesn’t mean we spend the full hour actually posing and making portraits, because, frankly, most smaller children won’t last a full hour! But since we have plenty of time, we don’t have to rush right into the session. If your toddler needs some time to “un-cling” and get comfortable with new surroundings, that’s fine!
We may spend the first several minutes of your appointment time just crawling around on the floor playing with blocks before the camera ever comes out… and when it does, many children don’t even notice — they’re having too much fun!
Another important thing about Coonrod Photography is that we understand children. We know that 8-year-old girls can be both exuberant and shy at the same time, and that 10-year-old boys are a little goofy. All 4-year-olds want to be “BIG” and two-year-olds can sometimes be “terrible.”
We know that each age is different and that they respond differently to new situations. We don’t treat every child the same way — we get to know them, and try to discover each child’s unique personality before we start to photograph.
(And by the way — if your child is a member of our Kid’s Club, having a portrait made won’t be an unfamiliar situation. Our Kid’s Club members are old friends! How unusual is a 4-year-old that strolls right into the camera room like they own it? Kid’s Club members don’t cry when they come for portraits, they cry when Mom says it’s time to stop “playing” and go home!)
